Otto Kolschowsky decided to open a retail store in 1909 where he sold meat in Oak Park, located in the west of Chicago. Otto did well in his business, and in a decades time, he expanded and changed from retail to wholesale. The growth of the business enabled him to move his business to Maywood. In 1928, the business became family owned, and it changed its name to Otto & Sons. After several decades, Otto & Sons became stable and successful, and it became a great story for the American people. Over time the company transitioned to a global corporation from a regional supplier.

The Rise of McDonald’s which created a symbiotic relationship with the OSI Group

Another relatable story that blends in with the OSI Group company is McDonald’s. Ray Kroc who worked in a franchising agent opened up the first McDonald’s restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955. Ray Kroc, later on, implemented the franchising model at McDonald’s because it was the latest trend that was taking shape in the U.S.

Before Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald’s, he met with the sons of Otto Kolschowsky and they made a handshake agreement where the sons were to supply the franchise with fresh ground beef. This was a great development to the story of both companies. The two family businesses went on to create a massive business partnership which helped them become some of the most established and popular brands in the world.
