ENCOURAGE OUR COMMUNITY TO HONOR
WISCONSIN’S VETERANS
The Veterans Bell Tower Memorial is designed to honor Wisconsin
Veterans of all services—to make sure we never forget the
people who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. Our mission
is straightforward: Honor. Educate.
Remember.
A
place for education and celebration
In Pewaukee, on Capitol Drive just east of Highway 164, this memorial
will become an awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind landmark. It will
include:
•
A 57-foot tower to house eight change-ringing bells—one
of only a few such towers throughout North America and the only
one in Wisconsin
• Kiosks with educational presentations on Wisconsin military
units and the wars and conflicts in which they served
• Exhibits featuring Wisconsin companies and the products
and services provided to the armed forces
• Information on individual service histories—a vital
resource for genealogists
• Gathering space for memorial celebrations and community
events
It’s
a place where we can educate our youth, remember our predecessors
and bring history to life for generations to come.
A
unique combination of tribute and performance
The insignias of the armed services will be engraved in granite
within the shape of our state, a vital tribute to those who made
the ultimate gift to our country. The courtyard will be paved
with bricks that individuals can have inscribed with Veterans’
names.
The
memorial’s most unusual feature is a set of eight change-ringing
bells—one of only 50 in all of North America. The bells,
weighing from 359 to 1,059 pounds, were cast in London, England,
at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, makers of the Liberty Bell. Their
vigorous ringing offers an unforgettable experience, making the
Veterans Bell Tower Memorial a landmark destination.
BENEFIT
ALL GENERATIONS
Veterans, families, students, the community at large—all
will benefit from the memorial.
Inspiring
through education
The Veterans Bell Tower Memorial will serve as a valuable storehouse
of information on our state Veterans’ role in protecting
our nation. Students of all ages, especially those in area elementary
and high schools, can learn to understand and honor the ideal
of serving one’s community and country. It’s a perfect
opportunity to help the generations connect, as children come
to understand what their parents, grandparents, family and friends
experienced.
