The Chainsmokers have headed up their already established sound with another promising song. “Closer” is their latest of singles, which have gained attention on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Andrew Taggart is in the spotlight on “Closer” as the singer with a featured artist, Halsey. The background of The Chainsmokers has been EDM/DJ Production, but the move from pure EDM to Pop seems slowly characterizing the new style of The Chainsmokers. The human element of writing and performing their lyrics and sound is the next step of development in soundscapes for this upcoming artist, Adam Pall. Pall and Taggart admit being impacted by deadmau5 and Pharrell Williams. The DJ Duo started in 2012 in New York thru Adam Alpert, the head of their Label Disruptor Records, had put them in touch with one another. In 2014 they appeared on American Idol. Two years later they had a string of singles which led them to a #1 spot on the Billboard Charts with “Closer,” staying there for 12 weeks at the peak and another 52 weeks on the charts.
Adam Pall admits that while growing up DJ music was a passion for himself and it was consuming his life. He had lots of opportunity to DJ around the “Big Apple” as a part-time gig. It was around that time that Alpert introduced them to one another and Pall and Taggart hit it off very well. They quickly forged a sound they liked and coming out with singles that made others listen.
The Chainsmokers got into songwriting and Pop as a natural progression to their style, says Pall. In other words “why not” do what you love, and you can express with some level of confidence and fits into what you want to put out there for others? The real job is to put out a group of songs, say 10-12, that is cohesive and tell a convincing story and express who you are as a group.
